Composition Projects

Richard Mills is currently completing a set of orchestral songs to be recorded by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra with Emma Matthews, Jose Carbo, James Clayton and Rosario La Spina. The songs are commissioned by the Ian Potter Foundation.

He has been commissioned to compose an opera for the Sydney Conservatorium to conclude its centenary celebrations in 2015.


In 2007 Mills conducted performances and recordings with every Australian orchestra except the Adelaide Symphony.

He completed a second string quartet and a third string quartet for the Jerusalem Quartet, amd revised String Quartet No. 1 for the Goldner Quartet. His fourth string quartet will be premiered by the Flinders Quartet in their Sydney and Melbourne subscription seasons in 2010. In 2007/2008 he worked on a series of song cycles commisioned by the Ian Potter Foundation.

In 2007 Love of the Nightingale was performed at the Queensland Music Festival in July and also by Victorian Opera.
